I haven’t posted in this thing for a long damn time.  If you haven’t been listening, I’m sorry to say you’ve been missing out on some of the best shows in the history of GOC.  Last week I had the elusive John Brooks co-host and blow minds on the Girl O’clock all-vinyl Feb’09 edition.  I played shitty playlist/cancon requirements, and he played wikked psych that no one can pronounce, and we discussed perceived immortality of favourite rockstars (or something like that).

Hey, tomorrow night (Thursday, Feb 12) Chad VanGaalen is FINALLY coming to Lethbridge.  I wanna give my deepest love and respect to Miss JP, VP Academic of the ULSU for doing something good and wholesome for the University of Lethbridge campus and organizing a week of events in support of sex, drugs, and rock and roll.  I am now a life-long fan of Dan Savage.

BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, please please please come out to the brand new GCBC Lounge (above Henotic, new restaurant in Fire Hall No. 1) this Friday, February 13th.  My pal Paul (you know him as yr professor, yr second favourite CKXU radio DJ, that guy who’s in a million bands, blah blah blah) has been helping me develop CKXU NIGHT LIVE, where we pluck some of our awesome CKXU DJs outta the on-air booth and plop ‘em into a live party.  First one is gonna be DJ’d by me and Paul, and it’s destined to be amazing.  Absolutely no cover, all we ask is for you to come and have a good time while we provide the soundtrack.

Also coming up is CKXU LOVES YOU III, our annual kitschy, romancy dance at the Slice on Saturday, February 14th.  Because of this, Girl O’clock will not be live, so don’t even bother listening anyway and come to the Slice cuz we’ve got Endangered Ape, The Square Waves, Love Potion Ice Nine, Chief Mountain and the White Guy, DJ Daemon and Shane the Librarian.  Dress up in yr letterman jackets, crimp yr hair, and spike yr drinx and shell out 10bux for yr favourite radio station, cuz we’re gonna entertain the shit outta ya.

another GOC write-off

Hi fans, so as you probably heard (or read on twitter) the Girl O’xmas special was unexpectedly cancelled.  Thankfully I was given an opportunity to do a live DJ set at my pal Akolade’s xmas party (where I stuck in a CD, hung out in the kitchen for a while, and played with his babby).

Here’s a heads up: tonight might also be unexpectedly cancelled, so just incase I’m planning a “nothing special” show, even though its the last show of 2008.  Whateverrrr, the good stuff is gonna be next week where I will do a Girl O’clock 2008 review that will coincide with the monthly all-vinyl night.  Are you stoked?

Another thing you should be stoked about: instead of bothering to listen to my show tonight (which may or may not happen), GO TO THE SLICE.  Montreal’s Coulees, formerly Lethbridge’s Soy Captain, are coming back home and they’re gonna charm the hell outta ya.  Other acts tonight will be Menehune (a must see), the Day After Tomorrow Band (a grand reunion, members of the Buzzing Bees, blahblahblah), and the Darby & Joan Club.

Mixwit shuts down

We’ve put a year of work into Mixwit so this choice wasn’t taken lightly. I won’t go into the details of our situation but state simply that we boldly marched into in a position best described as “between a rock and a hard place.” We’re very grateful to be have been part of the mixtape revival of ‘08 and are satisfied to be able to to bow out while things are still good.

Daaamnn, first goes Muxtape, and here goes another one.  I’m gonna be scouring the “muxtape replacements” to see which one is best, again.  Although, the mixes I’ve made with Mixwit for my other blog done for my Sociology of Cyberspace class seem to still be in tact… click here and here to listen to them if you want or whatever.

Hey fanclub, tonight I’m super stoked to do another all-vinyl edition of Girl O’clock.  Didn’t do it last week cuz I went on the Alberta Boom! tour (which was a simultaneous success and horrorshow).  This week I don’t have a guest sharing their wax, I’m taking a break from that so I can share what I’ve picked up over the months.  It might be a little all over the place.  Don’t forget to comment, twitter (martineoclock), or call in (403 315 9523) if you have any vinyl requests.

Also, next week I’m planning a Xmas special.  So far, I’ve got, like, three songs planned, and it might just be a Xmas segment.  or whatever.

all vinyl with Paul K

Last night was the first Saturday of the month, and the first Girl O’clock of the month, which means all vinyl Girl O’clock!  The November 2008 edition was a definite WIN, thanks to Paul agreeing to be a guest and sharing some of his wrekkid collection with me and the listeners.  He did, like, a best of 2008 in 7 inches.  I played the Royal Trux.

Since the internet is still not working in the CKXU on-air booth, the playlist wasn’t live-bloggable.  If you’re curious about the jams we jammed, I will be putting up the playlist later tonight.

ALSO, the CKXU Halloween bash was another win.  I took the advice from someone who posted halloween costume ideas on my other blog, and dressed up as Siouxsie Sioux.  Pictures later?
